Admissions Criteria 2017/18
It is important that parent(s)/guardian(s) when submitting the application form give all the current relevant supporting information and written evidence that may be needed including the child's birth certificate.
The Board of Governors reserves the right to require such supplementary evidence as it may determine to support or verify information on any application form. The provision of false or incorrect information or the failure to provide information within the deadlines set by pre-schools can result in the withdrawal of a place and the inability to offer a place on the part of any school nominated on the applicant’s application form.
PLEASE NOTE – All relevant documentation in support of an application must be submitted on or before the closing for application (not later than 12 noon).
Children who are not normally resident in Northern Ireland will not be considered for places until all children who live in Northern Ireland have been considered. The Board of Governors have determined that, in the event of there being more applicants than places available the following criteria will be applied, in the order set down, to select children for the available places:
1. Children from socially disadvantaged circumstances born between 2 July 2013 and 1 July 2014.
2 Children born between 2 July 2013 and 1 July 2014.
Note: “Children from socially disadvantaged circumstances” means a child whose parent is in receipt of Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or an award of Income Support which has been converted into an Employment
and Support Allowance and the level of benefit remains the same. When parents apply for places for their child on this basis they must have their application forms stamped by the Social Security Agency to confirm that they are in receipt of a qualifying payment.
If there are more children who satisfy any one of the criteria 1 – 2 when they are being applied then selection for the available places will be on the basis of the following sub-criteria, in the order of the priority set down below.
(a) Children who have selected Belmont Nursery School at 1st Preference.
(b) Children whose family member is currently a member of the school’s staff or governing body (parent/guardian/ grandparent).
(c) Children whose brother/sister attended Belmont Nursery School (to include half, step, adopted and fostered).
Please state on application form name of sibling (ie. brother / sister) and year attended.
(d) All other children
3 Other children born between 2 July 2014 and 1 July 2015 will be admitted in chronological order of their age, oldest first. In the event of two or more identical dates of birth, selection will be made using the random alphabetical tie- breaker as listed below.
In the event of over-subscription in the last sub-criterion which can be applied then selection for all places remaining in this category will be on the basis of the initial letter of the surname as per the birth certificate in the order set out below:
A G B U P Q W D R MacH O K Mc Z N T F M I X V S L C J Y E
The order was determined by a randomised selection of letters of the alphabet. In the event of surnames beginning with the same letter the subsequent letters of the surnames will be used in alphabetical order. In the event of 2 identical surnames the alphabetical order of the initials of the forenames will be used as per the birth certificate.
The Board of Governors reserves the right to give certain applications special consideration due to Compelling Individual Circumstances. Children who, in the opinion of the Board of Governors, have special home circumstance, this may include a child whose parent(s)/guardian(s) or sibling has a serious long term/life threatening illness (medical evidence required). Parents should put their application for special consideration in writing to the Board of Governors along with copies of any relevant documentation.
PLEASE NOTE – All relevant documentation in support of an application must be submitted on or before the closing for application (Wednesday 11 January 2017 not later than 12 noon).
The Admissions Criteria will be applied by the Board of Governors and the Principal, in the first instance. Thereafter the Principal will consider further applications, subject to the final approval of the full Board of Governors.
If parents/guardians have any difficulty in completing the form then they should consult the Principal of the school.
Part-Time Admission Criteria
The same criteria will be used for part-time admissions as for full- time admissions, taking into account parental preference for morning or afternoon class.
The school’s policy on the consideration of applications after the Open Enrolment Admissions procedures concludes on 23rd June 2017 is available directly from the school or can be accessed on the school website. Should a vacancy arise, the above criteria will be applied to select pupils from our waiting list.
